This lens set began with the legendary Canon 50mm f/0.95 "dream lens," originally created in the early 1960s for still photography and known for being the fastest commercial lens of its time. The lens earned its "dream lens" nickname due to its single-coated elements, which gave it a unique amber tint and beautiful, creamy bokeh when used wide open. It was initially challenging to rehouse because the rear element was too close to the film plane for film cameras with spinning mirrors, and the lens’ rear size made it difficult to fit into a PL mount. However, the introduction of the LPL mount provided the necessary mechanical freedom to begin the rehousing process.

Following the success of the 50mm f0.95, requests for additional lenses to match its look led to the creation of a full set of Canon "dream" lenses. Carefully selected from the same era, these lenses feature single-coated elements with the signature amber tint. TLS developed a comprehensive set, now ranging from 19mm to 135mm with 10 focal lengths, primarily drawn from Canon’s Rangefinder series and some early Canon FL lenses. The 25mm and 28mm lenses were adapted from the 35mm, using different wide-angle adapters.

These lenses offer a distinct look, with heavy flare, especially under direct light, sharp center focus, and lower contrast than modern lenses. The image falloff is gradual towards the center, but can become quite pronounced at the edges, particularly with wider focal lengths on a full-frame sensor. During rehousing, the close focus was improved, with the 19mm, 25mm, and 28mm now capable of focusing within 8 inches (20cm) of the film plane. The set maintains consistency in terms of a 110mm front diameter and matching focus and iris gear positions across all lenses.
