We support focus tracking (sometimes referred to as auto focus) with all systems. We are constantly capturing and sending distance data. Turning on focus tracking is as easy as pushing a button. Disengaging and regaining manual control is just as easy.
The Moon System
The Moon Smart Focus system consists of Eyes, Brain and the Moon App.
Eyes
The Eyes are the 3D sensor. They are typically mounted on the main camera, above the lens. Every individual pair of Eyes are meticulously calibrated in the Moon TUNING process to ensure precise accuracy and so that the distance data they provide will be well within depth of field in most practical filmmaking situations
Brain
The Brain gives the system processing power, connects it to your lens control system via a serial cable and to the Moon App via wifi. Its shell is lightweight anodized aluminium for weather durability and it has a 1/4" female threaded hole (with a 3/8" adapter screwed into it) on the rear side for mounting.
The Moon App
The Moon App gives you access to Moon View as well as different modes and settings. We deliver the system with an iPhone 12 Mini as a controller to run the app on. However you can access the Moon App from anything that can run a browser: other smartphones, an iPad or even a laptop. You can also connect multiple devices at the same time.

Person and Nearest person
Our two modes detecting persons will always stay on the person's eyes even if the character holds something up in front of them.
Nearest point
In Nearest Point mode you will get the closest distance inside a resizable and moveable area. When shooting a commercial this can help you if you want to pull to the product when the model holds it up. Or on an action feature you may want to go to the barrel of a gun. It's possible to have up to six areas active at the same time.
Spot
In Spot mode you instantly get the distance to anything you click on. If what you click on moves, Moon Smart Focus will track it. This can be useful to track a car or any other object and to very quickly get marks. Even during a take.
